Thought I'd throw in another Ridcully post with our house model channeling some Mustrum. I've also added a few detail shots.

It’s all in those details baby…. Cuz, ya know, I think we could all use a flask hat right about now.

Reveal for Mustrum Ridcully wizard hat. It came together even better than I had hoped. I had a lot of fun hunting for all the little detail bits. I learned some fun new techniques in the process and I'm down half a bottle of silver fingernail polish for that flask tip. 😆 I was worried about the weight but it came in at around 2lbs. Still heavy but could have been worse. I'll post some pictures of our resident wizard model channeling his best inner Ridcully.

Tada! It’s finally finished. The Arch Chancellor of Unseen University’s hat with functional pistol bow, full fishing rod/tackle, and a removable flask in the tip. Stay tuned for another reel demonstrating the flask.

Mustrum Ridcully wizard hat WIP update 3: The pockets are getting roughed into place and the silver tip of the flask has been sculpted. I am using goat curls sandwiched between the two layers of the brim and ear flap fur detail. I am using leather for some of the straps and some antique cuff links for various fasteners.

Mustrum Ridcully Hat WIP update #2. Once the body of the hat was partially felted, I needle-felted a star and moon pattern into the surface. You can see how the overlays for the brim I was working on in the last post turned out. I roughed them in together, trimmed the excess and top-stitched those together. I started working on the pockets for all of his accoutrements for the hat, including a small pistol bow and and collapsible fishing pole. The tip will also have a removable flask. I thought I was going to have to use corset boning inside to support the weight, but the fishing rod is helping with that instead.

Last year I was asked if I could make a custom Mustrum Ridcully hat and as a huge fan of Discworld I was thrilled for the challenge. This hat was absolutely a labor of love; many hours and a lot of problem solving went into figuring out the construction. I'll be sharing the process of making this hat over the next few posts before showing the finished product!

Here I was working on the plaid sections for brim and earflaps, an oak and acorn pattern on one of the pockets, and the star and moon inlays for the body of the hat. You can see the drawing I was given as a reference in the background.

Earlier this year I was asked to make a ‘tree themed hat’ for the non-profit, Trees Atlanta Root Ball Auction. As the dogwood is the state tree of Georgia and one of my personal favorites, I decided to make one of my pixie hats with a Dogwood branch and blossom on the side. I'm really loving the versatility of this pixie hat! Please check them out ! I am so glad this hat went to a great cause!
