Recent visitors may have noticed a new face in the office. Let me introduce Divya to you! There’s a story here, so bear with me...

In April, we bid farewell to Erin as she headed off to a new role with an organization here in Woodland. It will be a great fit for her, and we are simultaneously sad to see her go, but thrilled that she found a path that aligns with her next chapter. She’s the one who tirelessly fought with insurance companies for all of you who used your benefits to come see us. It’s a grueling task, but someone has to do it, and she showed up for it faithfully. (We miss you, Erin!)

Many of you will remember Adriana, who was with the practice from 2013-2024. She is returning! We are so thrilled to welcome her back, however, she was unavailable to start until June 8th. That left Di’Angela and me to carry the full load of patient care for five weeks. Not an easy thing to do!

Enter Divya. She has valiantly worked with us on a temporary basis during this interim period. Divya recently finished the Medical Assistant program at Carrington College, and she is looking for a permanent position in the field. I can recommend her wholeheartedly to any of my local friends who need to fill a spot in their teams. Divya loves dogs, so she and Roxie were immediate buddies. 🐾

This post wouldn’t be complete without an ode to Di’Angela’s can-do attitude during these past five weeks. She has been stretched every day, always with a smile on her face and willingness to learn a new skill, take on a new responsibility, and do whatever the moment required. I was worried the gap of time between Erin’s departure and Adriana’s return would be miserable, but it has been manageable because Di’Angela and Divya showed up every single day and gave everything they had. Teamwork at its best.

We may or may not be planning a walk-up song for Adriana’s return on Monday. 🎵 If you grew up watching the Bulls in the 90s, you already know which one.

They say you don’t truly know the strength of your team until it’s tested. Consider us tested — and I couldn’t be prouder of how we came through it. Valley Vista Eye Care is ready for whatever comes next.💙💚🩵

Did you know that contact lenses can help with migraines? It’s true! Altius Grey-Green lenses block 100% of UV light and 99% of blue light, reducing the light sensitivity experienced by most who suffer from migraines. No peripheral leaking like tinted glasses or sunglasses. Combined with the right medical treatment, they’ve been truly life-changing for some of my patients.

It’s April Fool’s Day, but this is no joke! 🎉

Today marks 15 years since Valley Vista Eye Care Optometric Center (VVEC) was launched. I am beyond grateful for every patient, our team, and each victory that brought us here. We’ve weathered a lot together — including an office move in the middle of a global pandemic — and we’re still standing, still smiling, and still fixing eyeballs. 👁️✨

They have the best smiles, even when their faces are half covered by a phoropter. These pictures were taken during their visit to California in 2021, and the subsequent five years have flown by in a flash.

If your eyes have been itchy, watery, or swollen lately, you’re not alone. This weird spring heat wave seems to be sending allergy symptoms into overdrive for a lot of our patients.

One of my favorite go-to recommendations? Pataday eye drops. Think of it as the Claritin or Zyrtec of eye drops, but formulated specifically for ocular allergy relief. It’s a once-daily drop, available over-the-counter, and it works really well for most people. It’s typically around $22 per bottle in most drug stores, but a patient recently sent me a photo of a display in Costco where a 3-pack was $28.49. (No financial interest.)

A few things you can try at home:
💧 Pataday drops: once daily in each eye
🧊 Cool compresses: soothe irritation and help to disperse allergens
💦Non-preserved tears: help your eyes flush allergens

If home remedies aren’t cutting it, come see us! We offer Rinsada, an in-office eye rinse that provides a refreshing, thorough flush of the eyes. (Swipe👉🏼 to 3rd photo for an illustration.) You may also need a short course of topical steroids to calm the inflammation.

25 years of Di’Angela, and the world is a better place for it!🎉🎂 Di’Angela rung in her birthday the right way on Tuesday: day off, family time, and total relaxation. Meanwhile, Erin and I may have gone a little overboard with balloons and streamers at her desk.

Di’Angela brings so much to our team. That million-watt smile greets every patient who arrives for an appointment, and her heart of gold make the office a better place. We are so glad to have her on the team. Here’s to 25 and everything great for the next quarter century!
