In 1952, Knoll made design history with the release of the Bertoia Diamond Chair; a design that has transcended beyond the pocket of Mid-Century furniture.
Hans and Florence never pushed Bertoia’s design one way or the other; instead encouraging creative freedom and experimentation. This freedom led to Harry’s experimentation with material, form and color.
“I began to think in terms of what I would like as a chair. It started very slowly… I came into rod or wire, whether bent or straight. I seemed to find myself at home. It was logical to make an attempt utilizing the wire.” - Harry Bertoia
To this day, Knoll continues to produce Bertoia’s iconic designs, preserving them for the modern generation where they fit in seamlessly.
You can find these chairs scattered throughout various pieces of pop culture media. Whether it’s in movie/TV set design, advertisement, music videos, residential and commercial buildings alike; these have transcended beyond MCM and blur various styles/eras.
We’re proud to currently stock 5 of these chairs here at DMCM! Schedule an appointment to come check them out in person, and own a piece of design history!
