It's been a long time since I made a steampunk piece of jewelry. A few months ago I found this pendant and pocket watch piece sitting in my office drawer and I thought, "This is my last one." Back in 2008-2010 I sold a ton of steampunk designs. One of my customers was Courtney Love Cobain. Imagine my shock when her address came up on an order. I double checked it and yes it was her. Etsy was new and Hollywood was scouring the pages for unique designs to use in their productions. I also sold a piece that was worn by an actress in an episode of Law and Order. I probably should have capitalized on the free advertisement a bit more, but most of my pieces were one of a kind. It's not like I could have sold thousands of one design. I was more intrigued by all the places I shipped pieces internationally. I kept a log of all the countries I had shipped to. It was exciting for this small town home businesswoman/artist to see her designs travel the world. USPS must have gotten wind of the internet shopping world because the prices of international shipping went from $5 for a 2-3 ounce package to $14-$18 depending on where it's going. Plus taxes and tariffs started being added. Canada randomly pulls packages and sticks a $20 import charge on them- at this moment I can't remember what it is called- but my customer who wins the import tax lottery sure isn't happy. About five years ago I quit selling internationally, it became too expensive and a hassle. Anyways, I've rambled enough this morning. This piece just brought me back to the "good ole days" of Etsy and online shopping.
