What are we working on today… 🔧🏍️

Belt to Chain Drive conversion for a Harley-Davidson 883 ⛓️

This project is a little more challenging because this 883 has been fitted with a fat rear tire, which makes the drivetrain geometry much more complicated.

With the wider rear wheel and tire, the rear sprocket needs to be pushed outward with a significant offset to achieve the correct chain line, clear the tire, and maintain proper alignment between the front and rear sprockets.

Before we start designing anything, there are a lot of measurements to take directly from the bike:

📐 Actual dimensions and clearances
📐 Front and rear sprocket offset
📐 Front sprocket position
📐 Center alignment and chain line
📐 Clearance around the fat rear tire
📐 Final drive ratio
📐 Suspension travel and operating clearance

We can't simply take dimensions from a drawing and start CNC machining. Everything has to be measured on the actual bike, calculated, checked, and verified before the final design goes into production.

It may look like a simple Belt-to-Chain conversion from the outside, but behind it is a whole lot of measurements, calculations, and mechanical engineering. 😎🔩

After a period of use, the 2-piece sprocket carrier developed an unexpected issue.

Rather than simply repairing the original design, MREV chose to completely redesign the mounting interface to eliminate the weakness at its source.

The upgraded version features:
• Reinforced thickness at critical load-bearing areas.
• A redesigned mounting layout for improved load distribution.
• The same clean, compact, and robust appearance that defines MREV products.

At MREV, encountering an issue with a product is not something we hide from. What truly matters is acknowledging it, identifying the root cause, and continuously improving our designs so that every new version is better than the last.

Once again, we sincerely apologize for the delay caused by the redesign and manufacturing process. Thank you for your trust, patience, and for giving MREV the opportunity to make it right.

The Nth time we've done it...

The 23T front sprocket for Harley-Davidson has been successfully machined by MREV Racing, marking another milestone in our belt-to-chain drive conversion project.

CNC-machined from a solid billet of SCM440 Chrome Moly steel (Japan), this sprocket delivers outstanding strength, excellent load-bearing capability, and exceptional durability. Every detail is manufactured to a precision tolerance of ±0.01 mm, ensuring optimal concentricity and perfect fitment.

The tooth profile is designed to JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards) specifications, allowing the sprocket to engage the chain rollers precisely. This improves power transmission efficiency, reduces friction, and minimizes wear during operation.

Completing the assembly is a matching sprocket lock nut, also precision-machined to provide both functional reliability and a clean, premium appearance.
