O-Thala

O-Thala Nordic designs made in Vietnam The brand name O-Thala derives from the last letter in the old Nordic runes and refers to the returning to your ancestral home.

This can be understood in many ways, but the meaning that inspired me to use this old rune to represent the brand is the journey that Othala also stands for. In this time we talk about finding ourselves, we travel the world, we travel in our own inner universe all with the goal of finding ourselves. Othala symbolize this journey, it is both our starting point, the journey and our ending point. The

past and the future in one. At the beginning of our journey we have our ancestrial and cultural heritage and while this is what you will still find at the end of your journey at this time you will have become part of it. Othala – we inherit ourselves, and we become part of our own cultural heritage. For me personally O-Thala has great meaning, being from Denmark I grew up with the old Nordic runes and folklores. Yet it took me to travel all the way to Vietnam before I could see my Scandinavian heritage in an appreciating light. Today I am still living in Vietnam, and in some strange way Vietnam is today part of my heritage. My personal journey has taken me around the globe, and let me experience many different paths in life. I grew up in a small city in Denmark, lived the hectic life of climbing the corporate ladder in giant Saigon, found myself seeking to redefine myself in the small ancient town of Hoi An that I today call home. The birthplace of O-Thala, though O-Thala has been long underway and was born in my mind long ago. As a fashion label O-Thala seeks to embrace the meaning of the ancient Scandinavian rune by drawing on cultural heritage from all around the world. O-Thala is inspired by sleek Scandinavian design lines, but at the same time seeks to incorporate the intricate design details and patterns that cultural heritage provides us with, in particular using the embroidery and beading techniques that are cultural heritage to Hoi An and the central region of Vietnam, a skill often passed down through generations. O-Thala is my sacred land. It is born from my heritage and it represents to me the knowledge and learning I have gathered on my own personal journeys both around the world as well as my own inner self. O-Thala is my past, my continues journey, and my future, my destiny. I hope with O-Thala you will find not only a beautiful fashion piece to complete your wardrobe but also a bit of inspiration for your journey.
