In Cherokee culture, women held significant positions and enjoyed certain privileges and responsibilities.Women in Cherokee society were considered equals to men and could earn the title of War Women. They had the right to participate in councils and make decisions alongside men. This equality sometimes led outsiders to make derogatory remarks, such as the accusation of a "petticoat government" by the Irish trader Adair.
Clan kinship was matrilineal among the Cherokee, meaning that family lineage and inheritance were traced through the mother's side. Children grew up in their mother's house, and maternal uncles held the role of teaching boys essential skills related to hunting, fishing, and tribal duties.
Women owned houses and their furnishings, and marriages were often negotiated. In the event of a divorce, a woman would simply place her spouse's belongings outside the house. Cherokee women had diverse responsibilities, including caring for children, cooking, tanning skins, weaving baskets, and cultivating fields. Men contributed to some household chores but primarily focused on hunting.
Cherokee girls learned various skills by observing and participating in their community. They learned story, dancing, and acquired knowledge about their heritage. Women were integral to the Cherokee society, and their roles played a central part in the community's functioning and adaptation to changing circumstances. .

Today I hear people say I'm one eighth Cherokee or one quarter or one half. So what's the big deal? What are you, if you're grandmother was black? I never hear anyone say,, I'm one eighth black or one quarter black or half, they are just black. If your great grandmother was Japanese what do you say? I'm a quarter or an eighth.. no, you say I'm Japanese.
Today a Cherokee is a Chrysler Jeep... Is the gas tank full, or on half, or one eighth full? A medicine man came to our little band years ago and he said, if you have one drop of Indian blood, you ARE Indian!"
" How many of you were born in America? Well aren't you Native Americans then? Learn This Land. Learn the ways of your people. Those things in Europe are fine, but leave them there and learn this land. Learn about your roots, here. For without the roots the tree dies... Do it for the kids and for the future kids. Leave them a world of 'Hope', a world of getting along together.
For if one person in the tribe was hungry.. it meant the whole tribe was hungry.
One stick you can break, but the bundle of sticks you cannot break...it is strong... The Europeans put an ax sticking up, in the middle, of the bundle of sticks. Their policy was to divide and conquer., and also to facilitate the break up of the tribes... You can sometimes see their logo behind the platform of government speakers...
It's not the color of the skin, it's the color of the heart that counts. And if you have that Indian blood in your veins, do something to help your brothers and sisters, on the reservations. As the injustices still continue but in much more subliminal manner... Since the Cherokee Trail of Tears and the Navaho Long Walk, the su***de rate, on some reservations today, is five times above the National Average.
Do whatever you can to benefit your tribe, your People. I'm Cherokee and proud of it.. I ain't no Jeep! Aho!

The Native American ritual of “smudging” or burning sage to clear the air of “bad energy” turns out to ward away more than just “negative vibes.”

A recent study showed burning the herb in a room for an hour reduced the number of airborne bacteria by a whopping 94%.

The room remained almost entirely disinfected for over 24 hours, and seven strains of disease-causing bacteria previously present in the room still could not be detected 30 days later.

”We have demonstrated that using medicinal smoke it is possible to completely eliminate diverse plant and human pathogenic bacteria of the air within confined space,” wrote the study’s authors, from the National Botanical Research Institute in India.

Sage is also used in herbal medicine internally as a powerful antiseptic and anti-inflammatory.

The smoke created by burning the plant is also used as an insect repellent.

So instead of an expensive air purifier, you might try sage instead! Also, open the curtains. Another study has shown sunlight to be another excellent disinfectant.
