Fishing a pond or lake this weekend for largemouth? Try texas rigging a 5”-6” finnesse worm weightless and let it flutter slowly to the bottom, often when times get tough they cant resist the action a weightless worm creates while sinking. Fishing the bait slowly is the name of the game here but it can have great results!

Summer heat can have many effects on the fish, and your fishery. Bass, just like us do not mind finding some shade when available. One of the most prominent “shade trees” is all of that thick grass we try to avoid near banks or off shore fishing and its not off limits with the right gear, punching through grass with the proper gear can be highly effective during the summer. Pictured below is some of our favorite gear, this technique allows the angler to make a cast, twitch the bait and if there is no take, pick up and move along. It can also be extremely effective for covering water since it is essentially a power fishing technique. Paired with a Heavy/ Extra Heavy rod, 65-80 pound braid you will be able to catch fish out of the thickest cover you previously though was unfishable.

With summer here its easy to forget about jerkbaits, while heavily used from winter till late spring alot of anglers forget about them until fall. After spawn there is always a large population of bait fish in our lakes, ponds, and rivers which make jerkbaits a excellent option to mimic a baitfish fleeing from a predator. The erratic action, paired with agressive summer time conditions can make for excellent days on the water when most anglers are not useing this technique.
