I know weddings are crazy expensive but please please budget accordingly for alterations. This $3k dress was chopped and damaged for the sake of not having a $300 hem and bustle put in by its first bride. After washing it to begin alterations for its second bride I found it was hiding some very poorly done alterations. The hems have been chopped unevenly and one of the tulle layers had been scrunched up and stitched by hand in several places to “shorten”it. The top lace layer was still 6” longer than the linings had been cut to and there was no bustle, meaning the first bride was not only tripping on the lace hem and damaging it, but also carrying around her train.

Can you spot the difference in these two photos? The left side is original- and the strap was sitting 1/2” too wide in the front. We moved it in just to the front seam and tapered out the extra point- no more front gaping or armpit chafing! I promise the little alterations re just as important as the big ones!

Oh look! I found my creative spark again! As per usual the burnout was real by the time I made it to November. I took December almost completely off. I rested, spent time with family, recharged. Moved my entire studio up 2 flights of stairs to a bigger warmer room. And wouldn’t you know it my creative energy came back! A few projects just for me and tomorrow I’m back into client work again. Gosh life is good isn’t it?

See that tiny bit of lint on the left hand side of the bobbin casing? In a roundabout way these are the tiny things that impact why I don’t offer “cheap” alterations. You see I’m 2 hours from the nearest service tech so machine maintenance is a skill I’ve had to teach myself. There are tens of thousands of hours of experience and skill that have created the value I offer my brides. And I’m thankful for every hour of them- even the frustrating little lint balls that remind me to know my worth!
