This is my beautiful bride, Ssiima 🤍🇺🇬
This story sat with me for so long because I kept asking myself… how do I even tell this story properly?
Because this was never just about a dress.
This was about culture. Identity. Storytelling. Intention. And honestly… God.
One thing I absolutely loved about Ssiima was how intentional she was from the very beginning. She wanted a gown that felt modern, but still told the story of where she comes from. She wanted someone from Uganda to look at her dress and immediately understand the message.
And that is exactly what made this journey so special.
Every single detail had purpose.
From the waistline draping, the wrap-around elements, the tassel detailing, the beadwork… all inspired by the Gomesi. Even the fabric itself was authentic original Ugandan fabric, personally brought by her mum to South Africa.
This wasn’t about making a beautiful dress.
This was about honouring culture through couture.
I found myself learning more deeply about Ugandan culture because I wanted to respect every detail properly. And the more I understood the vision, the more emotional this journey became for me.
