Fatigue is a safety hazard
In Health and Safety, we often focus on physical hazards, PPE, procedures, and emergency preparedness. But we should not overlook fatigue and stress.
A tired worker may have a slower reaction time, poor concentration, impaired judgement, and a higher risk of making mistakes or having an incident.
That is why workers need more than just a safe workplace. They also need adequate rest, proper accommodation/shelter, reasonable working hours, and an environment where they can recover physically and mentally.
🔸Rest is not laziness.
🔸Taking a break is not weakness.
🔸Asking for support is not incompetence.
A worker who is well-rested is better prepared to identify hazards, make sound decisions, and work safely.
You cannot expect peak performance from an exhausted workforce.
Let’s make fatigue management part of our safety culture — because people are our most valuable asset, and they deserve to go home safe and healthy.
