This landmark album, and its iconic title track, was a major commercial breakthrough for the Irish rock band Thin Lizzy.

Lead singer and bassist Phil Lynott wrote the songs for the album while recovering from a bout of hepatitis, composing them on an acoustic guitar in the hospital.

The distinctive, sci-fi-themed cover artwork was designed by Jim Fitzpatrick, an artist famous for designing the iconic Che Guevara poster from the 1960s.
The art was inspired by H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds and Marvel comics.

While initial critical reception was mixed, retrospective reviews have hailed Jailbreak as a "truly exceptional album" and a cornerstone of 70s hard rock, widely regarded as the band's most perfect and essential LP.
