Life has been so busy lately, I almost forgot that my small business, Mella Moon, turned five this month! 🤩🙌🏻🥳
Between a full-time job, a postgrad degree, and running a small brand, 2025 has been… a bumpy road. They say it takes most small businesses 3 - 5 years to break even - well, we’ve hit year five, and we’re still here. 🥰🙌🏻🥳
There were countless times I thought about giving it all up. With the world changing so fast and the fashion industry contributing to so much environmental decline, I often questioned whether it was all worth it.
But every time, friends reminded me:
“No Mel, you’re different. You’re trying to make a change in the industry.”
And I love them for that. Always my cheerleaders. 🖤
Five years ago, I stood on the edge of a big life decision. I’d just been offered a design job at a major local retailer - a safe, stable path - but my gut said no. I wanted to create something new, something innovative. So I took the risk, and Mella Moon was born.
Since then, I’ve been featured in Glamour Magazine, Fairlady, and several fashion blogs who resonated with Mella Moon’s ethos. It even led me to my current role - lecturing future fashion leaders - and inspired my postgrad studies in textile innovation.
All the love, growth, and opportunity in my life stem from that one leap - choosing to build something meaningful rather than follow the safe route.
Five years on, the athleisure market has become saturated, and I feel it’s time for Mella Moon to evolve. I’m not sure yet where this next chapter will lead, but if there’s one thing I’ve learned - it’s that leaps of faith tend to land you right where you’re meant to be. 🌙
