Now the first sample exists :) It reminds me of a messenger bag. I’m happy with the shape as well it’s very 90’s and aesthetically alt 🥺. This is the first draft, it’s missing a zip and lining. The stitching on top reminds me of umbhaco. It’s a good balance between two reference. Most times I struggle to articulate afrogrunge through my work. It tends to feel performance and at times I wonder if I am doing it “right” making this bag today allowed to play and fulfil and idea I have been wanting to create in years. It looks amazing and came from a place of creativity first. Something I have not done in a while.

🧵⚡️ Let’s operate.

What starts as fabric scraps becomes something entirely new. Every panel is carefully pinned, stitched, reshaped, and brought together to create the patchwork that will eventually become an Afrogrunge jacket.

Every patch is placed by hand. Every seam joins a story to another story. What you’re seeing here is the slow process of building something worth keeping.

Thank you for following along and being part of the journey. Every view, comment, share, and order helps turn these piles of fabric into garments with a second chance.

Reimagined newness, one stitch at a time.

♻️ Made from reclaimed materials.
🖤 Handmade in South Africa.
🪡 Built to be worn, repaired, and worn again.

REIMAGINED NEWNESS 🖤

A 7-minute glimpse into a 15-hour day.

This weekend I packed up tote bags, fabric scraps, prints, sewing machines, and years of collected materials for a custom tote bag workshop. Before the event even begins, there is preparation: sorting scraps, ironing fabrics, packing supplies, and revisiting pieces from past Afrogrunge collections that now live on as fragments waiting for a new purpose.

Some people ask where the fabrics came from. The answer is simple: these are remnants from garments I’ve designed and made over the years. Pieces that could have been discarded are instead given another opportunity to exist in a different form.

That idea is what Reimagined Newness is about. Taking existing materials, memories, and histories and presenting them in a new light.

The workshop itself was a reminder of why I love creating in spaces like this. Watching people dig through piles of fabric, experiment with combinations, and leave with something uniquely their own is always special. One of my favourite moments is seeing the table at the end of the day. What begins as a neat, organised display becomes beautifully chaotic. A visible record of curiosity, creativity, and participation.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, created something, asked questions, and shared a piece of the day with me.
