That’s William Wegman — the artist famous for photographing his own Weimaraners, often in surreal poses with furniture, props, and costumes.

The photos on the wall in this shot are from his own back-catalogue: his Weimaraners posing on ornate, antique-style furniture, part of what became one of the most recognisable bodies of dog photography in contemporary art.

Material matters.
It carries the memory of making.
The reality of use.
The responsibility of what comes next.

At Chommies, leather is not a styling decision. It is a performance decision. A safety decision. A longevity decision.

So material matters more than people realise.

Leather remains one of humanity’s oldest performance materials because very few things balance strength, flexibility, repairability, and longevity quite like it does. It has survived centuries not because it is fashionable, but because it works.

A well-made leather collar does not deteriorate through life. It becomes part of it. It softens where your hand reaches for it every day. It darkens in the sun. Carries marks from rain, salt, sand, and movement. It records time.

And crucially, it keeps dogs safe when they need to be looked after.

We believe longevity is one of the most overlooked forms of sustainability.
Repair when needed.
Live with things properly.

Our leather is fully traceable and sourced from internationally audited tanning facilities operating under some of the world’s strictest standards:

Leather Working Group Gold Rated
REACH compliant
ISO 9001 certified
SATRA tested

Not because certifications sound impressive. But because accountability matters.

And let humans be more dog.

A little more curiosity. A little more play. A little less worrying about all things that might not even happen.

Your dog already thinks you’re doing great.

Which is why we’ve collected a few dog affirmations worth keeping close. They don’t care about your inbox, your productivity, or whether you’ve got your life together. They care that you came home, said “walk?” and occasionally dropped cheese.

- You don’t have to earn rest.
- You’re allowed to take up space.
- Going outside helps.
- Small joys still count.
- You’re doing better than you think.
- A walk and a snack can fix a surprising amount.
- You belong here.

Honestly, your dog might be onto something.

You know what this blanket and this naartjie have in common?
More than you’d think.

They’re both made by nature.
They’re both biodegradable.
Neither needs synthetic colours to look good.

You just probably shouldn’t eat the blanket.

The Chommies Blanket is made from 100% sheep’s wool. It’s biodegradable, machine washable and designed to last, using only natural fibres. Just the way things should be.

Every blanket goes straight to the dogs who need warmth the most.

All Dogs Go By One Name.

Well… sort of.

Because they might start as Luna, Milo or Charlie, but eventually they become Bubba, Sausage or Bestie.

Our letter charms are back in stock, so you can give their collar the name they started with.
Or the one you actually call them 😉

Some things change. Some things don’t.

Meet some of the women behind Chommies. Different stories, different paths, but somehow animals have always been part of the picture. Turns out that’s a pretty good place to start.

Happy Women’s Day to the women in our team, our community, and everywhere else. To the girls who grew up covered in fur, and the women who still are. Some habits are worth keeping. Here’s to making things with heart, and honouring those who surround us 💕

Meet Blippie 🐾
Or better known as ‘Blippie from Philippi’. A mix of Africanus and all things good, rescued from Elsie’s River and now living in Woodstock with Dad.

We spent some time asking the important questions.

• Describe Blippi’s ideal Saturday night.
A walk in the park with squeaky ball fetch until someone tires (it’s never him), a spot of art gallery sniffing followed by snacks and cuddles with Dad.

• Describe his social life. Life of the park, or lone wolf?
Life of the park. Decisively. An emotional intellectual who managed to befriend a German Shepherd known for getting along with no one. With Dad he remains a devoted lap dog even while driving. We don’t recommend it. He does it anyway.

• What’s the story behind the name?
Shelter-given, and later discovered to match a children’s TV character. And just like the character, he’s taught his own share of wise lessons — regular adventures outside being a prominent one.

• Any irrational fears?
The vacuum cleaner. Otherwise entirely fearless. He once jumped over a backyard wall just to see what was on the other side.

• Mountain Loop or Beach Loop?
Mountain Loop. Beach loops are saved for adventures through the Garden Route.
