STRIKING TANS and SUBTLE TEXTURES

This is a recently commissioned set for a customer in the USA. My ‘Tooled chain link’ day sporran with polished Cape buffalo horn fastener, platted thong and Turk’s head detailing.

There’s a certain luxurious appeal to this traditional piece with its matching sporran strap, finished in antique tan. Both are fully lined with my signature burgundy lamb skin suede.

ZEBRA ISN’T REALLY BLACK ‘n WHITE

Just landed in Oklahoma … My latest handcrafted CELTIC STAG ZEBRA dress sporran. 🔥

The brief was for “…..bold stripes, bringing those strong brown tones and textures out…” I used Albany choc brown for the gussets and trim with just a shade darker in the springbok for the tassels. If you look closely, you’ll see hints of a rich military tan behind the cantle.

This heirloom piece makes a very classy statement indeed, methinks.

IT’S ALWAYS IN THE DETAIL

After some time away from the bench due to health reasons, it was deeply satisfying to complete this special commission for a customer in the United States.

This is my Celtic Cross Springbok dress sporran, built exactly to brief. Chocolate-brown springbok tassels were chosen to echo the natural colouring across the front, paired with a double-chain configuration and matching belts and buckle for balance and presence.

The gussets, trim and belts are cut from soft yet durable tan kudu hide, while the interior is finished throughout with my signature burgundy kidskin suede lining — understated, traditional, and made to last.

From the southern tip of Africa, this is craftsmanship where function and durability are never separated from visual grace. Robust by nature, but rich in detail and character.

ARRESTINGLY ELEGANT, SIMPLE and STRIKING

My latest work.... Crafted for a police officer in Utah, who wanted a sporran face texture that mirrored his service leatherwork and metalwork that picked up the burnished gold on his uniform insignia.

We quickly agreed on this simple, striking heirloom piece that will look terrific in front of his Law Enforcement Officers Memorial tartan.

Typically, I added some terrific polished blue leatherwork touches.

BIRDS ‘n BEASTS 🔥

Every now and then, a piece comes together that feels like a story in itself. This Celtic Bird of Paradise cantle is probably the most ornate silverware I’ve created and it’s perfectly at home on a shaggy grey Nguni dress sporran for a customer in Washington State.

To link with the colours of his kilt, I set the cantle on a polished forest-green Cape buffalo leather backing. The tassels are black springbok, while the gussets and trim are cut from kudu hide; soft, durable, and made to last. At the core is top-grade bovine, fully lined with my signature burgundy lambskin suede.

A recent commission came in with a very clear brief: “Please create a sporran for Scottish country dancing, in flecked Nguni, distinctively different and where the tassels don’t bang around. It must contrast yet compliment his Ancient Gunn tartan…”

This piece was built with that in mind. Traditional in styling, with Celtic knotwork shields and subtle red detailing, it carries a quiet elegance; -confident without ever needing to shout.
