Problem solved from Awkward to Ah-Maze-Ing!

We’ve all had that ONE spot in our house... an awkward corner that you just don't know what to do with. Well, in this home, it was the massive, dark gap under this beautiful spiral staircase right next to the kitchen. It was simply wasted space, and frankly, a bit of an eyesore.
​As a decorator, my first thought was: 'This needs to be part of the kitchen.' The solution was a bespoke, luxurious wine room.
​The transformation was quite the journey! A huge shoutout to Richard from Cupboard Value Hillcrest (the cupboard designer!) who took our ideas and brought them to life with absolute precision. (Seriously, matching a kitchen to the curved line of a staircase isn't for the faint of heart!).
​We settled on a beautiful, lit wine storage area, and the real showstoppers are these black tinted aluminum black doors. The effect is amazing—they make the space look like sophisticated, walk-in fridges, completely eliminating that old dark void.
​The space is now vibrant, usable, and feels like a true extension of the kitchen. It's an art piece too. Problem. Solved. 🍷✨

​They say you never get a second chance to make a first impression. In the world of property sales, your front door is the "handshake" of the home. It’s the first taste of what’s to come—and if that taste is bitter, a buyer might decide they aren't hungry for the rest of the house before they’ve even turned the key.

​In South Africa, many of us are "garage door" families. We pull in, the roller door shuts, and we enter through the scullery or the kitchen. Because we don’t use our front doors, we often forget they exist. But a potential buyer? They are standing right there, waiting for the agent to fiddle with the lock, and they are noticing everything.

​When a buyer approaches a door like the one in our "Before" image, their subconscious starts ticking boxes—and they aren't the good kind. They feel anxiety instead of aspiration. Instead of imagining where they’ll put their Christmas wreath, they’re calculating the cost of a sander and a tin of varnish.

​The emotional connection is severed before they even see your beautiful lounge or renovated kitchen. You’ve lost the "romance" of the sale.

Two things kill a home sale before it even starts. 🏠📉

​Let’s be honest: selling your home is a business transaction, but we live in our homes emotionally. After 10 years in the industry, I see these two mistakes over and over:

​1️⃣ Daily Living Friction: We love our pets and our "cozy chaos," but most buyers can’t see the wood for the trees. When they see your laundry or pet beds, they see work, not a lifestyle.
Just look at this example. I stripped back those layers daily living and short cuts... to reveal a "Safari-Luxe" sanctuary that sells a dream!
​2️⃣ The Price Trap: It’s tempting to go with the highest valuation just to get the mandate, but the market doesn't care about ego. An unrealistic asking price leads to the dreaded "re-launch." My styling works best when the property is valued correctly from day one.

​My way is the easiest and fastest way to a "Sold" sign. Do it right the first time so you can move on to your next adventure! 🥂
