Following the smoke incident at Lonehill Shopping Centre on Sunday, our heartfelt thoughts go out to our neighbours at The Braai Room and all affected businesses.

✔ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸: Pop the aluminium tab off an empty cold drink can, slip one hole over the neck of a hanger, and loop a second hanger through the remaining hole. Instant vertical storage that cuts your rail footprint in half!

✔ 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆-𝘁𝗼-𝗴𝗼 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀: Use paired hangers to hang shirts with matching trousers, blazers, or skirts together to streamline your morning rush.

✔ 𝗦𝗺𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲𝘀: Give the tab a quick press or smooth down any rough metal edges with a bit of tape before using it near delicate knits or silk fabrics.

We’ve all had that heart-stopping moment opening the washing machine drum only to discover an entire load of crisp whites turned an accidental shade of pastel pink! 🙈🧺

Vibrant new clothing - especially bold reds, navies, and deep purples - often carries loose surface dye.

𝗕𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱-𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝘅, 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗲:

▪ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗽 𝗯𝗹𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁: Moisten an inconspicuous spot (like an inside hem or seam allowance) with warm water, then press it firmly with a white cloth or paper towel. If any colour transfers onto the cloth, the dye is unstable and will bleed in the wash!

▪ 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗼 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗻𝗲: Wash bleeding items entirely on their own (or strictly with similar dark shades) for the first two or three cycles until the rinse water runs completely clear.

▪ 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿: Hot water loosens dye bonds and opens fabric fibres, encouraging bleeding. A cold wash keeps pigments locked into the threads.

▪ 𝗧𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝘁: This minimizes friction on the outer fabric during agitation, preventing fibre breakage and surface fading.

▪ 𝗡𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝘁 𝘄𝗲𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝗮𝗱𝘀 𝘀𝗶𝘁: Hang or dry your clothes immediately after the cycle ends. Leaving damp garments bunched together in the drum allows wet dyes to leach directly into adjacent fabrics.

▪ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗸: Still not 100% sure? Throw an old, unwanted white sock into the drum with the garment to catch any loose dye safely before trusting it with your good clothes.

Ever tried cramming a puffy king duvet into a standard washing machine drum?

It’s basically an Olympic sport - and usually ends with half-dissolved detergent spots and an angry machine that refuses to spin! 🛏️😅

Bedding absorbs a tremendous amount of water, so having enough drum space is essential to actually get things clean without burning out your motor.

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗲:

▪ 𝟳 𝗸𝗴 𝗱𝗿𝘂𝗺: Great for single and double duvets, or everyday bed sheets and towel loads for smaller households.

▪ 𝟴 𝗸𝗴 𝗱𝗿𝘂𝗺: Comfortably washes a queen duvet (or lightweight summer quilt).

▪ 𝟵 𝗸𝗴 – 𝟭𝟬 𝗸𝗴+ 𝗱𝗿𝘂𝗺: Built for heavy-duty family laundry and can accommodate a standard king duvet.

▪ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 "𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗱'𝘀 𝗪𝗶𝗱𝘁𝗵" 𝗿𝘂𝗹𝗲: If you have to use your knees to shove the duvet in, it’s too full! You need at least a hand's width of free space at the top of the drum so water and detergent can circulate freely.

Running late, staring down a wrinkled top, and no time to drag out the iron and board?
Don't stress - you can mix up an emergency crease-releasing spray in two minutes flat using everyday staples from your kitchen and bathroom! 🏃‍♀️💨

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗗𝗜𝗬 𝗳𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘁:

✔ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝟯-𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮: In a clean spray bottle, mix 2 cups of warm water, 1 teaspoon of hair conditioner, and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar. Give it a good shake to blend. (The conditioner relaxes tight fabric fibres, while the vinegar softens without leaving any lingering scent once dry!)

✔ 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗺𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗵: Hang your garment on a hanger, mist lightly until the fabric is slightly damp (avoid soaking it), and gently tug the hem downward or smooth out the creases with flat hands.

✔ 𝗟𝗲𝘁 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗷𝗼𝗯: Leave the garment hanging for 5 to 10 minutes while you finish getting ready. As the mist evaporates, gravity keeps the fabric pulled smooth.

✔ 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀: This emergency trick works wonders on t-shirts, cotton knits, and jersey dresses. Always do a quick patch test on delicate fabrics like rayon or silk before spraying.
