The Plastic Project is a trash to treasure project, initiating sustainable employment for women. Discarded plastic bags do such horrendous damage to our beloved Mother Nature, causing untold suffering and death to sea life, birds and animals. We decided to do something about it in whatever small way we could, and we also wanted to do something to help alleviate poverty among women. So, we started

the Plastic Project, an eco-friendly, trash-to-treasure transforming project to initiate sustainable employment for women. This is how it works: We collect used plastic shopping bags, which we sanitise. The women then cut the bags into long strips called “plarn,” which they use to crochet beautiful bags and baskets. Selling these bags and baskets provides the women with some income, and any excess proceeds go towards a feeding programme for disadvantaged children.
