This one didn’t go to plan … but something new came from it 🧠
I was making a Mini Lux Shopper when I stamped the branding — and it went straight through the leather instead of leaving an impression.

One of those moments where you just stop and stare at it for a bit. Time, material, and a bag that was meant to be finished — all suddenly not usable.

After sitting with it for a while, I decided to cut off the damaged section. The bag became shorter, I added a zip… and a new bag started to take shape.

A kind of mini classic shopper.

It wasn’t planned, but it worked.

Sometimes the best ideas come from trying to fix what went wrong.

He didn’t know it then, but my grandfather’s hands would shape my future.

Long before Smithco, my Grandfather was a mounted police man in Southern Africa. He was also a quiet craftsman.

He spent his later years doing leather work—mending my old hand-me-down bridles & boots — and unknowingly passed down a spark. Years later, I started stitching my own first bag at the kitchen counter.
