Sometimes the alterations cost more than the suit.
And there are very good reasons why.
This particular suit wasn’t expensive to begin with. If it had been, the alteration price would have been the same — the percentage difference simply wouldn’t stand out as much. Because what you’re paying for isn’t a product. It’s a service.
Couture tailoring takes time, skill and precision. We aren’t a fast-fashion factory. We don’t have children working for cents an hour. Every adjustment is completed by a trained tailor who knows how to sculpt a garment to your body so it looks intentional, seamless and elevated.
For this wedding, the suit needed to be ready in under 24 hours. No other alterationists in Toowoomba could take it on.
Here’s what that service included:
• A custom fitting with careful pinning and confirmation at every step
• Exact measurements: a 40 mm trouser hem, 47 mm sleeve shortening and a 22 mm back blade taper
• A hand-sewn blind hem for a flawless finish
• Rebuilt sleeve vents with replicated topstitching so the alteration is completely invisible
• Full pressing of the jacket, shirt and trousers
• A suit steamed, checked, packed and wedding-ready
• Communication throughout: expectations at drop-off, a text update the next day, a call when we were 30 minutes from completion
• An upgraded suit bag for travel
• Tags removed so everything feels polished and ready to wear
Buying a new suit wouldn’t have solved anything — it still would have needed hemming, tapering, sleeve work and pressing.
That’s why alterations are a service, not a product.
The goal is simple: you walk into your event feeling sharp, confident and perfectly fitted.
And sometimes, that level of care is worth far more than the price of the garment itself.
