Springbok hide has been used for centuries by indigenous peoples for adornment, valued for both its beauty and connection to place. Ethically sourced, the hide is naturally only around 40cm wide, meaning larger bags require two skins to be skilfully joined together.
To preserve the beauty of the hair, each cut is made by hand from the reverse, often quite literally in the air, allowing the blade to move through the leather without disturbing the coat. It is patient, almost invisible craftsmanship.

Introducing Riempie (reem-pee) - Part of our ELEMENT Bush collection.
Thin strips of leather, handwoven to finish the edging of these three bags.
Dating back to the 17th century, riempie began as a practical design solution for creating lighter, cooler furniture to warm climates. Over time, it became one of South Africa’s most recognisable craft solutions.
