A few years ago, I had this crazy idea...that sewing didn't have to be kitsch, but that it could be modern, creative and perfect for a generation of women who crave expressive individual style.

After studying fashion and dressmaking, I realised that sewing is so much more than a creative outlet, it's fashion freedom and a space to express who I un

iquely am. It's not about being perfect, it's about loving the sewing process and making something special. It's a doorway to meeting talented people, making friends and experiencing the delight of wearing your own creations.

My name is Genevieve, I live in Cape Town, South Africa. When I'm not I'm spending every spare minute making my world a bit more homemade, I love spending time with friends, drinking copious amounts of tea and watching series with my biggest supporter and husband, Mark.

Is anyone else’s instagram exploding with Barbie related posts? Mine is. Especially my sewing account - so many Barbie makes.

I haven’t been so sure about the whole Barbie craze, if you’re anything like me it brings up mixed feelings of inadequacy and comparison…but then I stumbled across some quotes that shared and it looks like things have changed, I think I’m gonna see it after all. 🎀

Around about the pocket placement step my sewing machine was working but my brain wasn’t…now my pockets are simply aesthetic. 😂 For a dramatic ending I also accidentally ripped my dress. Now it has a patch. I like to call it a “design detail.” 😉 This sewing thing isn’t always perfect but when it’s comes down it no-one really notices. 😉

Sometimes sewing is not always about making new but changing the existing. I took my gym top from oversized to cropped and cuffed. Pre-gym Gen would have kept the oversized but it turns out that this exercise thing actually does bring confidence.

This is how exercise in my season looks, in amongst the toys, kids and dog cos there’ll always be an excuse…now you go do some sit-ups. 😉
