Rising Designer Seeks Support to Take Rastafari Fashion to New York

South African fashion designer Nina Vanhu Ma is on a mission to take her brand, BlaqMary, to the global stage as she prepares for a potential showcase at New York Fashion Week this September.
Through a recently launched donation campaign, the emerging creative is calling on the public to help fund her journey—an opportunity that could mark a major milestone not only for her brand, but for Rastafari fashion representation abroad.

The campaign, titled “NYFW Donation,” highlights both the ambition and grassroots nature of her journey. With a target of R7,000 set ahead of the 30th of August deadline, supporters are encouraged to contribute as little as R10 toward making the dream a reality.

BlaqMary is more than just a fashion label—it is a reflection of identity, culture, and sustainability. Positioned within the growing movement of Rastafari designers redefining global fashion, the brand embraces eco-conscious design while showcasing bold, culturally inspired aesthetics. Across the continent, similar brands have gained international traction by blending heritage with modern storytelling, demonstrating the global appetite for African creativity.
