I designed and developed the SK brand to honour the memory of my beloved husband Dayalan Padayachey who came up with the innovative idea and had asked me to pursue it just days before 090816, when died tragically in a motorbike accident. Dayalan had always been a very creative and innovative person. In 2002, he designed and produced a plastic push bike for young children and supplied 250 PnPs across SA. He also had other exciting ideas for adverts but did not have the luxury of time to explore all of them. So days before he died he asked me “Maya, what is the one word all South Africans would know regardless of race or language or whether they lived outside of SA?” I answered with the F - word in Afrikaans and he LOL and said, “no think harder”. I gave up and he said “There is not a South African who would not know the word ‘KAK’!” Now it was my turn to LOL. He then said, “You are in the manufacturing business, why don’t you start a brand called “Super KAK”? So, I decided to honour the love of my life, my soul mate, by turning 1 year of grief into hard work to set up the brand and to launch it almost a year to the day since he left me. This is my outpouring of love for Dayalan the Legend, motorbiking champ as you can see from the brand.
