In 1884, Angelo Moriondo introduced the world's first espresso machine in Turin, forever changing the way coffee would be brewed and enjoyed.

Just 19 years later in 1903, the Wright Brothers achieved the first powered flight, proving that humanity could rise above the horizon and explore the unknown.

WHY AND WHEN DO THEY CALL A MILITARY PILOT AN ACE?

In military aviation, an "ACE" is a title reserved for a fighter pilot who has achieved five or more confirmed aerial victories. The term originated during the First World War and quickly became a symbol of courage, precision, discipline and excellence in the skies.

The name itself comes from the Ace playing cards the highest card in the deck. Just as the Ace represents the highest value, an ACE pilot represents the highest standard of skill and achievement.

Throughout aviation history, fighter pilots proudly marked their aircraft with victory symbols, often painted beneath the cockpit. Each mark represented a hard-earned aerial victory and served as a visible reminder of dedication, perseverance and mastery of their craft.

✈️☕ ACE Aeromia Coffee Emporium recently attended the Zwartkop Airshow where aviation history came alive.

From classic warbirds and vintage aircraft to thrilling flying displays the day was a reminder of the passion, heritage and community that make aviation so special.

As a brand inspired by flight, adventure and great coffee, it was an honour to experience and celebrate the rich legacy preserved at the Zwartkop Air Force Museum.

Long before aircraft crossed oceans and connected continents, coffee was already fueling journeys of discovery.

The story begins in the highlands of Ethiopia, where legend tells of a young goat herder named Kaldi who noticed his goats becoming unusually energetic after eating bright red berries from a wild shrub. Curious, he tried the berries himself and discovered the invigorating effect that would eventually introduce coffee to the world.

It is fitting that coffee's birthplace lies among the mountains of Ethiopia. The same high-altitude environment that produces some of the world's finest coffee beans is also home to one of Africa's most important aviation gateways. Addis Ababa's Bole International Airport sits over 7,600 feet (2,300 metres) above sea level, making it one of the world's major high-altitude international airports.

For centuries, coffee traveled from these elevated lands across deserts, seas and continents, inspiring explorers, traders, innovators and adventurers. Today, aircraft continue that journey, carrying people and cultures across the globe from the very region where coffee's story first began.
