From challenge to triumph. From invasive alien plants to beautiful, purposeful design. And now, from South Africa to Paris.

We could not be prouder of Tumi, our inaugural Ventures Foundation winner.

But this journey has also reminded João and me of something we believe so strongly at SUNSHINE: it takes a village.

The Ventures Foundation Sanlam Private Wealth | Your wealth. Our craft. has been a true collaboration from day one. So many brilliant minds, generous mentors, makers, manufacturers, partners and people coming together, sharing their knowledge, opening doors and believing in South African creative entrepreneurship.

And then there were our five incredible finalists. Five different voices, five businesses, five journeys, all supporting each other along the way. You will forever be part of our SUNSHINE circle 🌞

Tumi calls herself the Alien Lady, taking something considered a problem and seeing possibility instead. Turning environmental challenge into beautiful design, opportunity and livelihoods.

From challenge to triumph. From invasive alien plants to beautiful, purposeful design. And now, from South Africa to Paris.

About 1.5 years ago, Anel, João and I had an idea.

What if Sanlam Private Wealth could create a platform that truly supported South African creative entrepreneurs? Not just a competition, but a real journey. A programme that gives creative entrepreneurs the knowledge, network and opportunities to build sustainable businesses, not just beautiful products.

What we did not expect was just how many extraordinary people would say yes and join us. Claude Morris leading the business coaching. Tracy Lee Lynch steering the manufacturer partnerships, our 100% Design Africa stand and sooo much more. Our panel of experts, our mentors, our manufacturers and our incredible team. Together, we built something so much bigger than any of us could have imagined.

Today, we’re seeing that dream come to life, the Ventures Foundation.

Five extraordinary South African makers are now working alongside some of the country’s most respected manufacturers, transforming their ideas into beautifully crafted prototypes. We could not be more proud of how far they have come.
