This design places you inside a kendo men helmet, looking out at the world through the grill of tradition. The landscape reflects a Japanese perspective shaped by discipline, heritage and quiet observation. Temples, bridges, sakura and water form a calm inner world that every kendoka learns to recognise through training.

Originally sent into space in 1972, the NASA Pioneer Plaque was humanity’s introduction to the universe. OSSU’s Pioneer Plaque – Karate Edition reimagines that message through a martial arts lens—because discipline, respect, and a proper gi never go out of style.

This clean, diagram-inspired design blends space exploration history with karate culture, honouring both science and budo tradition. Subtle, intelligent, and quietly rebellious, it’s a shirt for those who appreciate clever design and deeper meaning.

Sensei Alfred “Alfie” Stevenson has walked one of the most unique paths in South African martial arts—bridging the worlds of judo and karate with a spirit of discipline, curiosity, and unstoppable drive. From early beginnings to representing South Africa on the tatami, his story reveals the deep overlap between the two arts and the pioneers who shaped him.

We’ve just published a full interview that dives into his journey, his influences, and his thoughts on the future of martial arts in SA.

The Earlybirds tradition began in 1965, when Sensei Stan Schmidt launched the first early-morning training classes at the SA JKA Honbu. Since then, the movement has spread worldwide, uniting many karateka who choose to train before sunrise with discipline and quiet determination. This vintage emblem design features a globe and the classic motto “We train hard while you are still sleeping”, celebrating both the heritage and global reach of these sessions.

Really proud of this one.

An interview with Sensei Jess Geyer that I think a lot of people in the karate world will appreciate — not just for what’s said, but for what’s quietly carried. The belt in the photo belonged to her grandfather, Sensei Stan Schmidt. The shirt carries his words. But it’s her presence that speaks volumes.

Hope you enjoy the read as much as I did working on it.

It’s not every day you get to share something this special.

We had the honour of interviewing Sensei Jess Geyer – a quiet force in JKA karate whose journey bridges continents, generations, and the legacy of a family that helped shape what we know today. In this photo, she wears her grandfather’s belt – Sensei Stan Schmidt’s – a symbol of everything passed down through sweat, time, and discipline.

The full interview is now live. It’s honest, reflective, and full of the kind of depth you don’t often find. We’re proud to share it.

Experience the mystique of the ronin with this atmospheric design. Featuring a silhouetted samurai walking under the glow of a textured full moon, this artwork captures the resilience and solitude of a masterless warrior. The flowing clothing, the staff in hand, and the dramatic use of light and shadow create a contemplative and moody feel. Japanese characters for "ronin" (浪人) add a cultural touch, making this a striking piece for lovers of traditional Japanese themes. This striking T-shirt design captures the essence of karate, featuring a practitioner in a traditional white gi standing resolutely in a grounded stance. Behind them, a large shadowy silhouette looms, symbolising the fears and challenges that one must face in martial arts and life. Swirling white and red textures give the design a dynamic, intense atmosphere, while bold red accents, including the kanji 勇気 (yūki), meaning "courage", are positioned to enhance the theme. The high contrast against a black background makes this design powerful and visually captivating. Whether you are a martial artist or someone who values inner strength and bravery, this T-shirt embodies the spirit of karate. The design is also available on the Redbubble Ossu shop at www.redbubble.com/people/Ossu-Couture.
