THE STORY...
With the sun setting over their final year at varsity, a group of friends hit the road with no plans, only the clothes on their backs and cash in their pockets. Little did they know that their adventure would lead them to a small beach town on the east coast of South Africa where, during late-afternoon small talk on a sea-facing balcony, inspiration would intervene in the form of a passing traveller wearing a printed t-shirt proclaiming “I Love Plett”. And so, spontaneously, the concept of “I love Stellies” was born. Stellies is our abbreviated name for the beautiful town of Stellenbosch, established in 1679 and situated near Cape Town, on the southern-most tip of Africa. Surrounded by mountains and wine-lands, and shaded by avenues of old oak trees, the town revolves around its university. Stellenbosch is a town that has shaped the history of South Africa but has, more importantly, evolved into an eclectic alternative space that continues to inspire and influence. The Stellenbosch ambience, created a backdrop for the development of a lifestyle–inspired brand conceptualised in tradition, but fuelled by the power of the moment and motivated by the possibilities of the future.
