Organic h**p baby carriers for a calmer parenting journey. Est 2015. Designed and made in Cape Town. And with that, Ubuntu Baba was born.
(432)

As a sleep deprived and frustrated first time mom, Shannon McLaughlin, founder and creator of Ubuntu Baba, quickly realised that her baby needed her 24/7 and the only way she saw to make that work was to have him on her body...

She set out in 2015, purchasing 6 different baby carriers trying to find the perfect one. Struggling with all of them, she realised that to solve this problem, she would need to design her own. Having a Dad in the backpack manufacturing business and a Mom with a background in fashion design, she had resources at her disposal and set out to reach her goal of creating an easy to use, breathable and comfortable carrier that could be used from the newborn days onwards and grow with her baby. After many different prototypes, and assuring her design team time and time again that; “okay, I swear this is the one!”, Shannon finally managed to design her dream baby carrier. With her baby boy comfortably asleep on her chest, she could now continue on her journey of motherhood with comfort and ease.

Just you.
Your baby.
And a moment that belongs to nobody else.

Let the waves roll in.
Let the world slow down.
Hold them a little closer.

Because the little moments are the big ones.

Thank you Megan for your beautiful review 🤍

“Where do I even begin? My daughter is 9 weeks old, and our Stage 1 Ubuntu Baba carrier has genuinely been one of the best investments we’ve made.

My little girl absolutely loves her contact naps (and let’s be honest, I love them just as much •), but without a carrier, that can mean spending hours every day completely nap-trapped.

Our Ubuntu Baba has changed that completely. I use it multiple times a day - around the house, when we’re out and about, and even when I need to jump onto a Zoom or Teams call right when she decides it’s nap time. She gets to snuggle up against me and have the contact nap she wants, while I still have the freedom to move around and get things done when I need to.
It has honestly been life-changing during this postpartum and newborn season and has made these early weeks feel so much more manageable. We get all the closeness and cuddles of contact naps, without me necessarily being stuck in one place for hours.

And one of the things I love most is knowing that it isn’t just convenient - I can feel confident that she’s being carried safely and that her positioning and little hips are properly supported.

Safe to say, we’re officially an Ubuntu Baba family. ®
single day, and I love knowing that our carrier can grow with her too.

I’m so grateful to have found something we use every
One very happy mama and one very cosy little passenger.

A limited-edition favourite. 🤍

Our Ubuntu Baba in Keedo design was loved by so many of our new mommies — and now we’re dreaming up what comes next…

What colours or prints would you love to see in your favourite baby carrier? 🤍

STEP OUT INTO THE WORLD AGAIN.

That first coffee.
That first walk.
That first day out with your baby.

Little moments that remind you:

Transitions from Stage 1 to Stage 2
A natural transition as your little one grows.

Stage 2:
Our Stage 2 carriers can be used for both front and back carry positions 🤍

Still close, through every chapter 🤍

Pregnancy brings so many changes, but that doesn’t mean you have to stop carrying your little one.

For most women, it’s safe to continue babywearing throughout pregnancy. With our Stage 2 carrier, you can continue using the back carry while pregnant, positioning the waist belt either above or below your growing bump — simply choose what feels most comfortable for you.

Listen to your body, take your cues from how you feel, and know when it’s time to rest.

Because your little one may be growing into a big brother or sister… but they’re still your baby. 🤍

Keep them close for as long as it feels right for both of you.
