𝗠𝘆𝘁𝗵 𝘃𝘀 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁: 𝗖𝗼𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀
Let’s talk about one of the big nursery myths:
“Your baby’s cot mattress needs holes to be safe.”
Not necessarily.
There is often confusion between 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 and holes in a mattress.
Breathability is important, yes. A baby’s mattress should allow airflow through the materials and should not be covered in plasticised, non-breathable layers.
But holes in a mattress do not automatically make it safer.
In fact, a mattress with holes can compromise the firmness and support your baby needs for safe sleep. A cot mattress should not feel soft, uneven, spongey, or unstable. It should be firm, flat, supportive, breathable, and properly fitted to the cot.
Comfort also matters. If the mattress does not offer proper support, many babies simply won’t settle well in the cot.
At Dream Furniture, we believe safety should come before trends, clever marketing, and “everyone says so” advice.
A safe cot mattress should be:
- firm
- flat
- supportive
- breathable
- correctly fitted to the cot
- free from plasticised, non-breathable coverings
So no, a mattress does not need holes to be safe.
It needs the right airflow, the right firmness, and the right support.
Beautiful nurseries start with the right foundation, and safety should always come first.
