We finished painting our flint corn project last week. The class learnt how to mix different colours of orange, green and brown and then used bubble wrap and gem squash bags to print the colours, and shapes of the maize.

There was lots of excitement when I bought two cobs off the farm last week, I should have brought more! I'm sure there is a traditional name for this colourful corn, but otherwise we just know all maize to be MIELIES! 🌽🇿🇦🌽

A little look at our art classroom, and some of the projects we do.

I have been following curriculum based around the Elements of Art and add in some technique based projects.

I'll chat to the kids about the topic and artists before we get going for the lesson. Sometimes I'll bring in real items to touch, look and investigate or I'll read a storybook or show some inspirational pictures.

This is the second year that I have hosted extra curricular art classes at our local school.

I first started with the grades 1 and 2's, and this year I have added a second class for the senior grades of Grades 3-7.

I provide all the materials needed for the class, and we explore the elements of art, how to draw, and some different techniques. The kids enjoy it, and it's great to share what I know about art with them.

💙First Look at the beautiful Lexi in her blue satin gown I had made for her Matric Dance at Bethlehem Voortrekker last week.

Doesn't she look stunning!! This bright blue suited her so well!

We had a pleated wrap bodice with straps going into a lace up open back. The skirt is a half circle skirt, with a slit. The bodice is slightly b***d to give her support and help hold up the voluminous skirt.

Not all dresses that I work on, are dresses that I have made from scratch.

Andia had found her perfect dress, but it needed some alterations. We were able to add in new fabric and blend it in with the original. Once we had shortened the hem, we used the extra lace for the bodice. Adding on the Tulle Bows, it was the finishing touch to make the dress a perfect fit for her.

At the beginning of this year, I had the privilege of meeting a dynamic mom and daughter duo who convinced me to sew this beautiful wedding dress for Tracey, in roughly 3 weeks.

The wedding dress was made with an organza overlay which added a layer of dreamlike swirl to a full circle skirt. The hem was beaded with a border of lace and glass beads, which was reflected in the bodice.

The bodice was corseted with satin boning and organza, finished off with some youthful daisy lace.

What a treat to look back at this dress, and what a beautiful bride Tracey is.

It's been a while since I posted here, and shared with you about my sewing business.

My sewing definitely took a back seat while our two kids were born and being raised. This year, there seems to be the time to get some more sewing done, so I am happy to advertise that I'll be taking on more orders.
