Car Wash Employee Who Totalled a Client's Car While Fetching Girlfriend Says He Didn't Know Mercedes-Benz Has So Much Power
CAPE TOWN – A local car wash employee has apologised after allegedly turning a routine vehicle wash into what experts are now calling "South Africa's fastest relationship test."
The employee, who had reportedly been entrusted with a customer's Mercedes-Benz SUV for nothing more than a wash and vacuum, allegedly decided the luxury vehicle was the perfect choice to fetch his girlfriend.
According to witnesses, the employee believed driving a Mercedes would "make a stronger first impression" than arriving on foot.

The journey, however, ended a few minutes later when the powerful SUV introduced him to a concept previously unknown in his driving career: acceleration.
"I've only driven a wheelbarrow and my uncle's lawnmower," he allegedly said. "Nobody told me Mercedes-Benz doesn't move like a Toyota Tazz. I touched the accelerator and the car was already discussing property prices with a neighbour's wall."
Residents say they heard a loud bang before discovering the luxury SUV had climbed over a wall and come to rest in a position usually reserved for action movies and insurance commercials.
The employee reportedly insisted the accident was caused by "too much engine."
"If that car had less power, I would've made it to my girlfriend's house."
His girlfriend, meanwhile, is said to have been less impressed than expected.
