Lessons I’ve Learned as a Woman Working in a National Park (Part 1) 🌿🦁

Working in conservation has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life but it also comes with its own unique challenges. Here are a few lessons that continue to shape me as a woman navigating life and work deep in the wild:

1. Teamwork
Out here, teamwork isn’t optional it’s essential. Every task, every patrol, every success depends on each person playing their part. We move as a unit and always give credit to the team. No one does this work alone.

2. Strategy
Being a woman in a male-dominated field, especially in leadership, means you’ve got to be strategic. Whether it's earning respect, making decisions, or handling complex field dynamics, you learn to lead with intention, clarity, and confidence.

3. Adaptability
National Parks are far from cities, people, and sometimes even comfort. You sleep in a tent ⛺, hear lions roaring at night, hyenas calling nearby and your daily company is your team, both during and after work. It can be isolating, but it teaches you to adapt, grow stronger, and truly connect with nature and yourself.
