The "Fruitful Futures" project aims to combat deforestation, enhance food security, and promote sustainable livelihoods in rural Zambia by planting 5 million fruit trees over five years. By providing free seedlings and training to local communities, we seek to restore ecosystems, support biodiversity, and improve nutrition. Our project will have a meaningful impact on thousands of people, contributing to a more sustainable future for Zambia.

Did you know plants need 16 essential nutrients to grow healthy?

Just like humans need a balanced diet to stay healthy, plants also need a set of nutrients to grow well and produce good yields. In total, there are 16 essential nutrients required for plant development.

These nutrients are divided into two groups based on where the plant gets them:

1. From air and water – 3 nutrients
Plants absorb carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen from the atmosphere and water. These form the base of all organic matter in the plant through processes like photosynthesis and respiration.

2. From the soil – 13 nutrients
The rest are mineral nutrients, taken up from the soil through the plant roots. These are further divided into:

Macronutrients – needed in large amounts
Primary macronutrients: nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium
Secondary macronutrients: calcium, magnesium, sulfur

Micronutrients – needed in smaller amounts but still very important
Iron, manganese, zinc, copper, boron, molybdenum, chlorine

Even if one of these nutrients is missing or in short supply, plant growth and yield can be affected. That’s why balanced fertilization and soil health management are key in agriculture.

Farmers and gardeners: always remember—healthy soil means healthy crops.
