The Zambia Association of Fashion Designers (ZAFD) recently held a productive engagement with the National Arts Council of Zambia , focused on strengthening the growth and structure of Zambia’s fashion and creative industry.

The discussions highlighted key strategic opportunities aimed at elevating the sector:

• Policy Advocacy & National Recognition
A proposal to engage the National Assembly and Cabinet on the introduction of a Civilian Day, incorporating a Fashion Police concept under ZAFD’s oversight to promote national identity, creativity, and standards in public presentation.

• Education & Talent Development
Collaborative engagement with the Ministry of Education to enhance the Fashion and Fabrics curriculum in schools, while integrating fashion and modeling into NASAAZ (National Schools Arts Festival) to nurture young creative talent.

Industry Integration & Growth
A strategic move to bring modeling agencies under the ZAFD umbrella through a structured group membership category fostering unity, professionalism, and industry-wide collaboration.

These engagements mark a significant step towards building a more structured, inclusive, and globally competitive fashion ecosystem in Zambia.

ZAFD remains committed to driving innovation, policy influence, and sustainable growth within the creative sector.

The Business of Fashion Workshop by the Zambia Association of Fashion Designers (ZAFD) was a powerful success and a clear sign that the industry is moving with intention.

This was the first of many capacity building initiatives by the ZAFD Executive Committee, designed to equip designers with real tools, real networks and real opportunities.
