MBALA MAYOR-ELECT DIES SIX DAYS AFTER ELECTIONs

CMTV: Mbala, Zambia — Mbala District has been plunged into mourning following the death of newly elected mayor Steward Simutenda, who passed away in the early hours of today, just six days after being elected.

Mr Simutenda, who contested the mayoral election on the NRPUP ticket, reportedly died after an illness.

The newly elected mayor had been hospitalised about a week before Thursday’s elections after falling ill. Despite his health challenges, he on participated in the election and was subsequently elected mayor of Mbala.

His death comes less than a week after the election, cutting short what would have been his tenure in office.

Further details surrounding his death and funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by his family and relevant authorities.

The death of Simutenda has sent shockwaves through Mbala, with residents and political supporters expected to pay tribute to the late mayor-elect in the coming days.

Japanese researchers achieved an internet transmission speed so fast that it sounds almost impossible.

Scientists at Japan’s National Institute of Information and Communications Technology transmitted data at 1.02 petabits per second through more than 1,800 kilometers of optical fiber.

That is over one million gigabits per second.

At speeds like that, an enormous streaming library containing countless movies and TV shows could theoretically be transferred in just seconds.

The achievement was made possible using a specially designed 19-core optical fiber that is roughly the same diameter as fiber already used in existing networks.

That is important because it means future upgrades may not require completely rebuilding every cable system from scratch.

There is one big catch.

This was an experimental research setup, not the kind of internet connection you can order for your house.

Still, the test shows just how much faster future networks could eventually become.

We have gone from waiting minutes for a single webpage to experimenting with speeds capable of moving unimaginable amounts of data almost instantly.
