We keep getting asked whether AI has changed how we work.
It hasn’t. Not here.

Every pattern is still drawn by hand, on paper, with a pencil. Every needle still gets threaded by fingers, not code. Every drape on the mannequin gets decided in the room, in real time, no algorithm has ever adjusted a shoulder seam because the light in the atelier changed.

31 hours per piece. No prompt required.

Artisanal Intelligence. Not artificial.

THE GHOST OF AVANT-GARDE.

A book by Adriana Lacko exploring avant-garde fashion, deconstructed fashion and fashion theory through theoretical analysis, visual culture and the work of 75 international designers and labels.

Moving between fashion, art and philosophy, the book questions what avant-garde means in the 21st century and explores the ideas, aesthetics and identities shaping contemporary conceptual fashion.

eigensinnig wien is part of it.

You’ll always know who’s on the other side of the counter here.

The designer Toni, or his right hand Alex. Nobody else gets asked to advise you.

Ask about fit, ask about fabric, ask what they’d actually wear themselves, a big store gives you a shrug and a name tag you’ll never see again.

Here, it’s two people who know eigensinnig from A to Z, because they’re the ones who built it.

Advice, styling, trust, the kind that only comes from a team small enough to know everything.

Men’s designer suits with just one jacket

We kept getting asked the same question about this jacket: what do you actually wear it with?

So we stopped answering and just tried everything.

Slim trousers, and the stand-collar blazer turns sharp — architectural clarity, vertical discipline, subversive hem details. A precise, all-black silhouette for men who see classic menswear not as conformity, but as attitude.

Wide pleated trousers, same jacket, and the whole ensemble changes weight. The Mao collar holds a calm vertical line, the pleats release controlled volume below.

Cropped baggy trousers, same jacket again, and suddenly it’s proportion over convention — precise tailoring above, anatomical width below.

Same stand-up collar. Same two buttons. Same gabardine cotton, cut and finished by hand.

Come try it on. We’ll help you find your version.

Extraordinary clothes for ordinary days. I have often wondered why we reserve certain garments only for special occasions. Curiously, the occasions we remember most were rarely planned.

A conversation.
A walk through the city.
Coffee before work.
An afternoon in a gallery.

Perhaps clothing should belong to these moments too.
eigensinnig brings the same quiet confidence to the ordinary as it does to the exceptional.

The Romans held festivals that had no end. Not celebrations of something. Celebrations of everything at once rhythm, movement, the body released from its ordinary obligations. A form of existence that refused to be contained by the shape of a single moment.

A skirt carries the same memory. Deep pleats that open differently with every step. An asymmetric hemline that belongs to movement, not to stillness. Black wool twill that holds its form while the body inside it does not.

Bacchanalia. Because some things were never meant to stay still.

There is a moment when a fiber stops being raw material and becomes something else entirely. Already present. Already decided.

Silk carries the impression of weight, the shadow of a fold, the memory of a gesture. Wool holds the shape of things with the patience of something alive. Together they form a cloth with contradiction built in, and elegance as its only resolution.

60% silk. 40% virgin wool. Night Blue.
Chosen once. For a very long time.

Some objects remain with us for reasons we rarely understand. Simply because, somewhere along the way, they became part of our own story. An old chair. A worn book. A mirror that has reflected decades and a pen that still knows the weight of a familiar hand. This series is about the quiet relationship we build with the things that stay.

The eigensinnig team
People often ask what kind of people work at eigensinnig. There’s never been a tidy answer to that. They come from different backgrounds, have different personalities, see the world in different ways. And yet somehow they all end up caring about the same things: craftsmanship, curiosity, and giving things the time they need.
Maybe that’s what a team actually is, not a group of people who think alike, but a group of people heading in the same direction. Looking around today, we realise that this may be the most valuable thing we have ever made.

Denim has accumulated a remarkable number of clichés over the decades.
Curiously enough, Moss Gray changes that conversation almost entirely.

The material begins to behave differently. It feels quieter more substantial, almost architectural.

WOTWAL grew from this observation. Heavy Cold Dye Rigid Denim gives the silhouette its sculptural presence, while the organically dyed surface reveals depth that shifts with changing light. Every line has been placed with intention, allowing the ensemble to unfold through movement rather than decoration.

Handcrafted in our regional manufactory and individually adjustable in our sartorial atelier in Vienna.
