It feels like a lifetime ago since I was last able to sit down and work on a sewing project for myself. It's been raining all day, so I decided to take a small break from work.

Today I decided to start with something simple for me - a Penny River Costumes pocket kit.
I think I have an obsession for pockets.

I'd love to know what other's are working on. I am hopeful to get all my kits and sew alongs completed to then work on some larger projects again.

I have restarted work on my PennyRiver pocket kit.

On Sunday the 7th of November, the ladies and gentlemen of The Victoriana Society of South Australia were invited to celebrate Descendants Day for the 157th anniversary of the Clipper Ship’s first arrival in Adelaide, 1864.

It was such a fabulous day, that was made even more perfect by the weather. Normally you get to only see one of my lovely children dressed but on this event my son decided to join in. He is not 100% historically accurate but it made him happy. Parker’s costume was made by a close friend from Apricot Rose Bridal

I would defiantly recommend a trip down to visit the Clipper Ship. My children enjoyed all the activities that they had available.

Here are a few photos from the day.

And it's completed. My 100% hand sewn Burnley & Trowbridge Company woolen pocket sewn with linen thread.

I feel every pocket would have been unique and I didn't want to waste any fabric and this is how it turned out.

What are your thoughts?

It's all about the pockets here. I have been working work making the Burnley & Trowbridge Company patch work pockets. I have 1 finished and another half way. These are 100% hand stitched and have definitely shown me that my hand sewn backstitch needs alot of practice.

The complete pocket was made using the B&T Linen pocket pack and the other not completed is using the Worsted Wool pocket pack.

What's everyone else working on?

Today was the last day of school holidays. What better way to finish the holidays than a trip to The Old Adelaide Goal with The Victoriana Society of South Australia.

This was an amazing afternoon out with both of my children thoroughly enjoying themselves. They had special activities just for the kids which made things so much more enjoyable for all.

I normally take LOTS of picture's but this time I only took two and one didn't work very well at all. Here is one of my daughter in her beautiful 1860s ensemble made by Jayne. Her cloak is actually an 18th century one I purchased from Colonial Williamsburg.

Finally, I got an hour to myself and started another of my 18th century pockets. This project will take time as I'm sure something else will take priority like all sewing works but I cannot wait to shoe you all this finished product.

This beautiful kit came PennyRiver on etsy.

I'd love to see what everyone else is working on.

Interesting Read

I have just finished reading Beyond the Household; Women's Place in the Early South 1700-1835 by Cynthia A. Kierner. This was such an interesting read on women's lives throughout the different periods.

I definitely recommend reading this book and feel like if I reread it, I would gain alot more from it.
