On this day, the eve of my 69th Birthday, I have something to share with you all.
One year from tonight, I will be marking the eve of my 70th Birthday. On that day, April 21, 2023, I will be closing my sewing business. Keeping You In Stitches will be no more.
I’ve met some wonderful people, had the pleasure of seeing brides positively glow when their gown feels so good they don’t want to take it off; had a few girls in their prom gowns and bridesmaids in theirs on the verge of tears when the gown they thought couldn’t possibly work for them does; hemmed more jeans and dress pants than I even want to think about; sewed on buttons, badges and crests, created costumes, shortened sleeves, replaced linings, made pillow cases, curtains and drapes, done some upholstery, replaced zippers, made buttonholes, hats, mittens, and teddy bears. Oh the teddy bears! My bears are all over the world! And the masks. Good Lord, the masks! As of today, I have made 1,262 masks. I hope the day will come soon that I never have to make another one.
But the time has come, or is coming, for me to stop sewing for the public. I’ve enjoyed it, cursed it, hated it, missed it, loved it and even tried to teach it.
Now it’s time for me. For me to have some me time. Time to travel. Time to paint. Time with no deadlines to meet. Time to do nothing.
So, if you want your name in my prom and wedding book for next year, you might want to think about booking soon. I will only be taking 10 of each, same as this year, and that will be ‘all she wrote’. It’s been a slice!
