Originally created as Japanese workwear, this vintage happi coat feels just as contemporary today.

Likely dating to the Shōwa period (circa 1960s–1970s), it was originally worn as part of a Japanese work or festival group. The symbols on the lapels and the oversized emblem on the back identified the community it belonged to, turning an everyday garment into a shared identity.

Made from sturdy indigo-dyed cotton, it was made to be worn every day. Over time, the softened fabric and gentle signs of use have become part of its story.
