Sport Festival Berlin 1973 Track Jacket

In 1973 East Berlin held the 10th World Festival of Youth and Students. Part of this was the Sport Festival Berlin. The WFYS bought over 250,000 guests from 140 countries to East Berlin. Going onto receive the name “Red Woodstock” due to the giant scale and cultural impact. The festival became a major platform for Cold War political discourse. Contrasting from this the festival hosted sports programs to bring together “Friendship through competition” This track jacket was part of the kit of representative members from the London Borough of Barnet. Featuring hand stitched patches featuring the boroughs insignia and event participation text. The previous owner appeared to have competed in Football and Basketball

Early 2000s Mecca Cola “Peace Not War” statement text graphic tee. Very important piece of political merchandise with some good history. Tees were produced my Mecca Cola in response to the US invasion of Iraq after the events of 9/11. Mecca Cola is a soft drinks company launched in France by a Tunisian businessman, Tawfik Mathlouthi, as an ethical alternative to brands such as Coca Cola. Additionally, during an anti war protest held in Hyde Park, London Mecca Cola was given out to protesters.

One of my favourite items that has recently sold

A 1970s sweatshirt for members of the Swiss Alpine Club, specifically their youth organisation. Featuring a raunchy “climbing” graphic of some little guys trying to summit a fishnet clad leg. This is in reference to an old avant garde Italian television show titled Stryx

Amazing sweatshirt that i’m sad to see go. Super thin well worn lightweight 50/50 fabric with very little cotton remaining. Raglan cut shape and plenty of fading throughout
