History will be made tomorrow on the Sovereign’s Parade at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. With Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Edinburgh representing His Majesty The King, there will be an all-female Banner Party for the first time ever on the Sovereign’s Parade. Carrying the Sovereign’s Banner will be Company Sergeant Major Brunton (Nurse) Royal Army Medical Service (RAMS). The Sovereign’s Banner will be escorted by Staff Sergeant Lewis, Royal Army Veterinary Corps and Staff Sergeant Bradley (Paramedic) RAMS. The history making doesn’t stop there: as non-combatants, RAMS personnel do not carry bayonets, however, on this occasion, SSgt Bradley will carry a rifle with bayonet fixed to protect the Sovereign’s Banner. The carriage of a fixed bayonet for this unique occasion has been specifically approved by the RAMS Corps Colonel and Regimental Sergeant Major.

The Sovereign’s Banner was presented to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst by His Majesty King Charles III on 14 April 2023.
