🎂 We’re ONE! (Well… we were a few days ago!)

On 3rd October 2025, The Crafty Exchange website officially went live.

What started as an idea to create a central hub where makers could discover brilliant independent suppliers, useful resources and creative inspiration has grown into a community almost 10,000 strong. 💚

Over the past year, thousands of makers have found their way to our website, our Supplier Directory has continued to grow, more independent businesses are joining our community, and our articles are being discovered by creatives around the world.

So, naturally, we’ve written a little birthday post looking back at our first year.
But there’s another reason you might want to read it… 👀

Because we’ve also dropped a few hints about what’s coming next.

All we’ll say for now is this: If you buy creative materials, use creative materials, or have creative materials… you’re going to want to stay tuned!

And if you haven't already joined our newsletter, now would be a very good time. Subscribers will be amongst the first to hear what we've been working on.

🎉 Read about our first year (and see if you can work out what we're up to next!) - Head over to the Articles section of our website now - hit the link in our profile :-)

🤖🧵 Would you trust an AI-generated sewing pattern?

We've welcomed lots of new faces to The Crafty Exchange community recently, so we thought it was a good time to revisit one of our most popular – and increasingly relevant topics.

AI can create an image of almost anything in seconds. But creating something that looks like a sewing pattern and creating something that will actually produce a wearable, correctly constructed garment are two very different things...

So, what happens when AI turns its attention to sewing patterns? And more importantly, can you actually trust them?

We take a closer look at AI-generated patterns, problems makers need to be aware of, and why the knowledge and experience behind traditional pattern design still matters.

💬 Would you use an AI-generated sewing pattern? We'd love to know what you think.

✨ Could you be our next Maker Spotlight? ✨

We know our community is full of incredibly talented makers – and we want to hear YOUR stories.

Our Maker Spotlight series is all about getting to know the person behind the makes: what you create, how you got started, what inspires you, the techniques you've learned along the way and the story behind your creative journey. 🧵🎨🧶

You don't need to run a business or have thousands of followers. You just need a love of making and a story you'd be happy to share.

Sound like you – or someone you know? 👀

We'd love to hear from sewists, knitters, crocheters, embroiderers, quilters, textile artists, papercrafters, jewellery makers and creatives of all kinds.

💌 Get in touch to put yourself forward, or tag/send this to a maker whose story you'd love to see featured.

Let's celebrate the people behind the creativity. 💛
