From service above the surface to service below it.

Recently, paraplegic veterans from the National Park Service Wounded Veterans in Parks programme returned to the waters of Pearl Harbor to support ongoing scientific monitoring of the USS Arizona.

Working alongside their dive buddies, they helped assess trapped oil within the wreck and revisit long-term monitoring points that have been surveyed for more than 15 years. The data they collect helps support the preservation of one of the most significant historic sites of the Second World War.

A powerful reminder that service can take many forms - and that diving can play an important role in protecting our shared history.

For more than 100 years, Shackleton's Endurance has rested undisturbed on the seabed, 3000m beneath the Antarctic ice.

Now, scientists and conservationists are asking whether it needs additional protection as climate change makes parts of Antarctica more accessible to explorers and new species that could damage the shipwreck.

It raises some important questions about how we protect both natural and cultural heritage beneath the sea... Are we doing enough?

This wild Atlantic Grey Seal, decided to join SeaWild’s Expedition Dive 2.

What started as a normal dive through kelp forest and rocky channels quickly turned into a 40-minute wildlife encounter with one of Cornwall’s most charismatic locals.

“Buddy” followed us, inspected our dive gear, rode on my back, swam alongside us and generally made himself part of the expedition team.

It’s really hard to keep your regulator in your mouth when you can’t stop grinning!

Also aware this was a wild animal, much bigger and more powerful than us. Playful, friendly and curious as he was, it was important to let him lead the interaction at all times.

This is just the beginning…
