I wish there was a universal sizing system, but unfortunately there just isn’t.

With shoes, if you’re a size 10, you’re usually a size 10. Clothing doesn’t work like that. You can be a completely different size from one brand to another, and sometimes even within the same brand depending on the style.

For example, in Friday Flamingo I might wear a size 2 in a dress but a size 3 in pants. That’s because they’re different garment types and need different fits.

What we do pride ourselves on is consistency. If you’re a size 3 in our Priscilla Dress today, you’ll still be a size 3 in that same Priscilla Dress in three years’ time. We don’t constantly change our patterns or sizing blocks.

I completely understand the frustration around sizing because honestly, I feel it too. But that’s exactly why we work so hard to keep our sizing consistent once you know your Friday Flamingo size.

9:27pm and finally heading home. What a day 🦩

It was so lovely meeting everyone who came into the shop today, especially the new faces who had never tried Friday Flamingo before and walked away with some beautiful pieces. You know who you are 🥹

Wearing the gorgeous lobster shirt today, which apparently still looks cute even with my dinner spilled down the front. Lol.

Hope everyone’s had a really good day. I’m off to bed so I can get up and do it all again tomorrow ❤️

Should I go to the mall and try on NZ brands so we can see what size I actually am everywhere else?

I went live earlier and someone asked how our sizing compares to other brands, so afterwards I went down the size chart rabbit hole… and honestly, I’m shocked.

On some NZ brand charts, I’d apparently be around a 24/26 in pants. At Friday Flamingo, I wear our size 2, which is around a 16.

It’s made me want to do a little bit of market research and actually go try things on, because I live in Friday Flamingo sizing and now I’m curious.

What is happening with plus-size fashion in NZ right now?
