Light, color, and invisible connections.

The new Shade side tables by Emmanuel Babled, created in collaboration with , are the result of extraordinary craftsmanship and years of expertise in sculpting perfect transparency.

Produced by Alfio Maci and Emilio Sampietro in their workshop in Lombardy, Shade plays with the distortion and filtration of light through an intricate composition of colored plexiglass blocks, assembled with such precision that the object reveals no trace of its construction.

A quiet balance between technology and the human hand, where matter itself seems to disappear.

Shade can be viewed at the gallery in Lisbon as part of the ECHOES exhibition during the summer.

In Shade, form gives way to light.

Developed with and brought to life by master artisans Alfio Maci and Emilio Sampietro near the northern lakes of Lombardy, these side tables are an exploration of transparency and perception.

Different coloured tones merge within perfectly sculpted plexiglass, while the absence of visible junctions creates the illusion of a single, continuous body. Reflections shift, colors blend, and matter appears to dematerialize.

As always, the work celebrates those whose hands and knowledge transform materials into dreams.

Introducing Shade, a new series of side tables by Emmanuel Babled in collaboration with .

Crafted in Lombardy, Italy, by master artisans Alfio Maci and Emilio Sampietro, these remarkable pieces explore the immaterial qualities of plexiglass — where light, color, and transparency become the true substance of the object.

Through a complex yet invisible assembly of solid blocks, Shade filters and distorts light, creating optical surprises and shifting chromatic reflections. The object seems to dissolve, leaving only the poetry of light behind.

A celebration of material experimentation and the enduring excellence of Italian craftsmanship.

This exhibition was conceived as a reflection on matter, craftsmanship, and the intelligence of making. Over the past days, it has also become a place of encounter — where conversations, exchanges, and shared experiences have given new meaning to the work on display.

Reactive mineral powders introduced into molten glass create bubbles and cavities that remain suspended within the material, forming irregular surfaces reminiscent of sedimented geological formations.

Inspired by Ercole Barovier’s pioneering research into material inclusions within molten glass, the collection transforms incandescent matter into compact forms crossed by textures, tensions, and trapped air.

Integrated optical lenses reveal hidden depths within each vase, amplifying the visual complexity of the material and turning every piece into a tactile and luminous fragment.
