GLASS BRIDGE — VENICE GLASS WEEK 2026

From Murano toward the world: Glass as an act of cooperation.

As part of Venice Glass Week 2026, Glass Bridge brings together the glassmaking traditions of Murano and the work of Shanga, a social enterprise in Arusha, Tanzania.

The project continues its journey with a Tanzanian delegation from the Shanga furnace, joining Murano practitioners for a programme of exhibition, conference and workshops, centred on the exchange of knowledge, skills and craftsmanship.

From Murano toward the world: Glass as an act of cooperation.

As part of Venice Glass Week 2026, Glass Bridge brings together the glassmaking traditions of Murano and the work of Shanga, a social enterprise in Arusha, Tanzania.

WHAT REMAINS UNSEEN

Some forms invite us to look closer.
Others leave space for interpretation.

In Ubuntu, each sealed vessel becomes a quiet study in balance, transformation and connection. Shaped by the forces of glass, air and gesture, the pieces exist between sculpture and design — objects that reveal their presence while keeping their inner world concealed.

A collection inspired by nature, ritual and the idea that everything is connected.

MATTER IN TRANSFORMATION

Born from fire, air, gravity and gesture.

For Ubuntu, Emmanuel Babled and Lara Morrell worked with Master Andrea Zilio of Vetreria Anfora in Murano, bringing a contemporary language to one of the world’s great glassmaking traditions.

Each vessel records a moment of transformation — where molten matter becomes form, and where the hand of the maker remains present in the final object.

The result is not simply a series of vessels, but a collection shaped by material, process and the forces of nature.

A vessel can contain more than what is visible.
Ubuntu explores the idea of interconnectedness — between people, nature, matter and the unseen.

Inspired by African ethics of Ubuntu and holism, the collection reflects on the generative forces of nature and on the vessel as a keeper of secrets, memory and metaphysical meaning.

Created by Emmanuel Babled and Lara Morrell, and realised in collaboration with Master Andrea Zilio at Vetreria Anfora in Murano.

Here, copper becomes the medium through which digital tools and traditional craftsmanship meet, shaping the table’s precise monolithic curves while allowing the character of the material to remain present.

Each Quark is an exploration in its own right — a dialogue between technology, craft, and matter.

Part of the limited-edition series, this monolithic table explores copper — an ancient and noble material known as “red gold” — through the balance of traditional craftsmanship and digital precision. Its characteristic curves transform the material into a sculptural expression of weight, warmth, and permanence.
