Miss Universe Thailand National Costume round, the theme centered around food and fruits, celebrating the unique flavors and cultural identity of each region. Representing Uttaradit, our inspiration came from one of the province’s most distinctive culinary traditions Khao Khaeb (ข้าวแคบ) from Lablae District.
With a history spanning over 100 years, Khao Khaeb is made from ultra thin, translucent sun dried rice sheets, traditionally flecked with black sesame seeds. We translated this humble local delicacy into an avant garde national costume taking something deeply rooted in Uttaradit’s heritage and reimagining it through couture.
The translucent quality of Khao Khaeb is recreated through clear, structured layers and custom textiles, while scattered black sequins, beads and hand detailing represent the signature sesame flecks. Stiffened netting gives each delicate circular form its structure, allowing the sheets to appear light and organic while holding their dramatic shape on stage. Beneath it all, a heavily sequined gown brings the glamour, creating a contrast between traditional culinary craft and modern pageantry.
