Quilts Made With Love

Quilts Made With Love Edge to edge longarm quilting Drop off or mail in. Located in beautiful Berea, KY I'm Michelle Ramsay. I have since made over 30 quilts.

I started quilting in 2010 when I was pregnant with my first child. I love everything about quiltmaking, especially seeing the look on someone's face when you present them with a finished quilt! When I'm not quilting for others, I enjoy making quilts for my family and friends, teaching others to quilt, contra dancing, and playing the ukulele. I am an individual a member of the Modern Quilt Guild.

New school year… new quilt project!

I’m drooling over all of ’s English paper piecing patterns and figured the would be a good place to start with EPP. I will have no shortage of soccer games at which I can sit and sew these hexies together by hand ⚽️⚽️⚽️ EPP patterns are great for using up scraps and this one is no exception. Also, these hexies are 1.75” as opposed to the usual 1”, which easier to work with for an EPP beginner like me and means that the quilt will come together a little bit faster! I’m enjoying the process so far. Here’s to a great school year, and to trying new things!

What are you working on??? Are you trying anything new?

Rachel’s Checkered Starlight quilt reminds me of sherbet 🍨 summertime ☀️ and sunsets 🌅

She requested the On Point quilting design, which is the best crosshatch panto you will ever find! This is one of those designs you can do at home on your domestic machine… but if you send it to me to quilt on my longarm, you can go ahead and get started on your next quilt! Because there’s always another one waiting 😉

Megan’s Aegean Quilt pattern was inspired by a recent trip to Greece. We chose a panto that looks like Greek columns! Big blocks make this a quilt top that comes together quickly ⏱️

The more I look at this quilt, the more impressed I am with Jenna’s work!

Half square triangles ✔️
Flying geese ✔️
Curved piecing ✔️
Needle turn appliqué ✔️

I quilted this one with a modern traditional panto in Baptist Diamonds curved, a recent favorite. I lucked out and had the perfect shade of peach (Glide strawberry blonde) to match the background fabric in Jenna’s quilt top.

Now I’m wondering… do you know of other modern quilt patterns that mix piecing and appliqué techniques?? I know some of .sovey’s patterns fall into that category. Let me know if you can think of any others!

As promised, here are photos of Sara’s !

Check out the luscious cuddle/minky fabric on the back! Quilting stitches really show off on cuddle backing 😍

I’ve had friends recently deal with this so I’ll give a warning here: don’t pair dark or brightly colored cuddle/minkee backing with a white background quilt top! The nap of the fabric can pull through to the front and ruin the look of the quilt. Always let your longarm quilter know if you’re using cuddle! PSA over.

Every year at this time like clockwork I get a bug… The gardening bug! This year I’m purchasing some dahlia tubers. I managed to show some self restraint and not pay $30 plus shipping for one variety I really wanted 💸 I’ve got some tubers on a sunny windowsill “waking up”. My sweet peas and snapdragons that I started two months ago are planted out but still only 4 inches tall. Gardening is a life lesson in patience for sure! What are you growing this year?

In other news, I’m still quilting away! Here’s one from earlier this year that I quilted for Megan. The Irish chain is a classic no-fail quilt pattern! I love her mix of fabrics ❤️ The midnight sparkle quilting design adds the extra … well ... sparkle! ✨✨✨

I’d love to add some extra sparkle to your quilt tops!!!! Get in touch with me if you need something quilted. I’d love to work with you.

One theme that kept coming up during was Community. It came up during the keynote speech, at the booth and social, at the Sew Black Lounge, as I ran into people I knew from my brief time with , and friends I made at quilting classes over the past 10 years. Sewing and quilting is way more fun in a community ❤️

Well it’s time to start a community of modern quilters in Lexington, Kentucky!

Let’s kick things off with a Sew Day on Saturday, June 17 2023 from 10 am to 4 pm. You don’t have to be there the whole time! Bring some hand sewing or your machine and whatever supplies you need.

Please share this with all of your friends in the greater Lexington area!! I hope to see you there!

If you've ever been afraid of using colorful thread...

It's time to reconsider ⏱️

Erica's quilt has a white background and we used an electric green thread (glide limerick)! And the result is fabulous.

My customer (now friend!) Erica is one of the many amazing people I met for the first time last month at QuiltCon! I'm still reflecting on my time there. It was overwhelming and inspiring. Maybe one day I'll share some thoughts... today is not that day 😆

Stronger Together Week 2 sewing tips!!

This week we will be sewing strip sets, making little 4 patches, and then the horizon, mountain, and valley blocks. The next week’s blocks are made exactly the same as these blocks, but all the prep work will be done!

Make one strip set, press, and measure it. Make sure it’s the right width- 2.5”. If it’s too small then your quarter inch seam is too large. If your strip set is too big, then your quarter inch seam is too small. Having a consistent quarter inch seam will make your blocks so much more precise! So get that down first.

For the assembly, I like to lay out all the pieces for 4 blocks at a time and place them next to my sewing machine (pic 2). I will sew each row together until all the rows are completed (pic 3). Then will will press the rows (pic 4). I found this to be the most efficient way to work, but do what works best for you!!

These colors shown are actually the summit and ravine blocks for week 3, but the process is exactly the same!

Someone said that making this quilt feels like putting together a puzzle! I love puzzles so I hope that’s a good thing 😂 I’m here if you have questions so ask away!
