Through Bunny’s Eyes 🐇

I’m realizing I never shared nearly enough from my visit to Oak Spring Garden this June. As I was putting together our Paris Edit, I kept thinking about Bunny Mellon’s collection of French Barbotine.

I left Oak Spring feeling incredibly grateful to have experienced a place that meant so much to Bunny. Walking through her home and collections offered a deeper understanding of the way she lived and what inspired her.

French Barbotine was one of the many things she loved. Inspired by the garden, these ceramics celebrated fruits, vegetables, flowers, and the changing seasons. Bunny collected with intention. She was drawn to craftsmanship, history, and pieces that reflected the natural world, creating a home that felt thoughtful, layered, and deeply personal.

Seeing her collection in person made it easy to understand why these pieces continue to captivate collectors today. It reminded me that the stories behind the objects we bring into our homes are often just as meaningful as the objects themselves.

One of my favorite things about antiques is learning not just what people collected, but why they collected it.

I’d love to know. What’s one collection you’ve started, or one you’re still hunting for? 🌿🇫🇷

If you’ve ever wandered the Paris flea markets, you’ve probably heard dealers use the word “Barbotine.”

Most English-speaking collectors would call these pieces majolica, but in France they’re almost always referred to as Barbotine. It’s one of those small details that completely changes the way you shop the markets.

From sculptural asparagus platters to oyster plates and cabbage tureens, Barbotine celebrates the beauty of nature in ceramic form. Understanding the language behind these pieces offers a fascinating glimpse into French collecting traditions and makes every market visit that much more rewarding.

We recently shared the story behind why the French use the term Barbotine, how it differs from majolica, and why these pieces have become some of our favorite antiques to collect.

Read the full story through the link in our bio.

Have you heard the term Barbotine before, or have you always called it majolica?

The Paris Edit is here. 🇫🇷

Earlier this month, we traveled through the flea markets of Paris and beyond, sourcing pieces that spoke to us. Along the way, we found beautiful treasures not only in Paris, but across France, including Provence, each chosen for its history, character, and ability to make a house feel collected.

This collection includes hand painted barbotine, French aptware, antique silver, copper cookware, original artwork, and one of a kind decorative objects that we are so excited to share with you.

The Paris Edit is now live on our website. We hope you find something you love as much as we loved finding it.
